Ben Bashford -Design thinking for connected things: Finally Cleaned My Tumblr Account →

(from Jake:  looks like others are experiencing my reaction at the current moment.  I created a monster when ages ago I imported my twitter feed then left this site alone for over a year.  Looks like this user, Ben, has a fix, but as a tech novice I’m a bit hesitant to try it out.  I’ve emailed support, we’ll see what they say.  And holla to my first “reblog,” we’ll see how it works!)

Whoah, now that was a mission!

I’ve had this Tumblr account for over a year now but haven’t bothered trying to update it as I got bored and moved on to using my Soup account as a primary website. I hardly ever post to my actual website any more either. The reason why I’m picking up this…

Murkowski to Attempt the Impossible: A Write-In Campaign

Chris Matthews and MSNBC is now reporting that Senator Lisa Murkowski is planning to run a write-in campaign for this November’s general election, just weeks after a stunning defeat in her Republican primary against tea party favorite and Palin-backed Joe Miller.

This is really an amazing development: that a senior, well-respected and SMART politician would attempt the impossible.  I do not know of one federal election to have ever been decided in our country’s history by a write-in campaign- it’s simply, nearly, impossible.

How do you encourage thousands of people to print your name (legibly) in the exact same way rather than simply hitting a button or filling in a circle?  Major political parties simply hold too much power to allow a write-in campaign to work; perhaps for a small, municipal office, but nationally?

All this said, if there was EVER a candidate who COULD pull this off, it would be Murkowski.

  1. She has been a senator for a VERY long time, and holds nearly 100% name recognition throughout Alaska
  2. She comes from a political family dynasty in the state, and so not only does she have name recognition, but people KNOW her and her background
  3. Alaska has a relatively small voting population, so the threshold to receive the majority vote is much smaller than, say, California or Texas

So if anyone could do it, it would be Lisa Murkowski.  Otherwise, this action only provides the Democratic candidate a chance to win an otherwise safely held Republican seat. With Miller and Murkowski splitting the center-right and conservative vote, McAdams might finally see a glimpse of hope in an otherwise unlikely situation.

Wow, it’s been a LONG time

So wow, I obviously haven’t been to this site in AGES.  First, I had an older e-mail address so I couldn’t even regain access, but thanks to AMAZING customer service on behalf of the tumblr team I was able to get in here to make some changes.  So thank you tumblr!

And making some changes is exactly what is in store. For a while I had been blogging at wordpress, but I’m really thinking about migrating here for a more whimsical take on my updates, rather than feeling the need to always publish well-thought out extensive posts.  Many of my friends have started using tumblr, so I think I’ll give it a try.

Looking at what has become of this site since I first playing around with the platform over a year ago, it’s overwhelmingly evident that I need to delete a lot of older content, re-work the front page (a link to FRIENDSTER?! WHAT?), and basically start from scratch.

Bear with me as I tool around with the site and see if it fits my needs.  Hopefully I’ll be able to connect with other folks and spark discussion and debate.
